Overview

We’re all used to finding information quickly and easily using online search engines. OpenAsset BIM brings the same power to your organisation’s BIM content library.

Revit families can be easily searched from the Revit Plugin, or you can find content from the main OpenAsset web interface. Search by family category, Revit version, unit system, or even custom keywords you’ve created in OpenAsset. Get to the content you need – in seconds.

The Revit Plugin is a really cool tool that lets you search for Revit families in your OpenAsset BIM library directly within Revit. Check out the video to learn more:

Searching

Well-organised BIM content is essential. And our Revit Plugin lets your designers access all the content in your BIM library without having to learn how to use a new system.

Just launch the Plugin from the ribbon in Revit, type a search term and the families appear as thumbnails. Drag and drop straight into the Revit project when you’ve found what you want. Family types can also be brought in one at a time or in bulk.

Share Families

Users can keep their favourite content in one, easy-to-find place with albums – one of OpenAsset’s most powerful features. Albums are accessible from the Revit Plugin, improving project collaboration and workflow.

Keep your own personal albums, or share them among your team. For example, pre-select Revit families to be used in your project to ensure consistency and quality. Or create company albums so everyone can share the best content. Perfect for firms with multiple offices and complex projects to manage.

Automatic Tagging

When you upload a Revit family, OpenAsset automatically extracts parameters and converts them into searchable terms, speeding up the creation of your BIM library and saving you time.

The Revit family category, Revit version, and unit system are all tagged by default. Select the parameter and type a keyword into the Revit Plugin search bar and you’ll instantly see the files as thumbnails. View details to see all the types and parameters in an easy-to-access table.

Drag and Drop
The AssetBar is a useful floating tool that allows users to drag-and-drop images from OpenAsset into other applications, such as InDesign,  PowerPoint, QuarkXPress and Word.    You will be able to access different sized images depending on what image size permissions you have been given by the administrator.   This short video reviews how to drag and drop images from OpenAsset into a number of different applications:   Launch Click the "Drag & Drop" button on any of the following locations in OpenAsset to launch the AssetBar: Search results page Carousel Image detail page   Clicking "Drag & Drop" will open up the AssetBar as a floating window which you can move around your screen as desired. The AssetBar will contain all the images you have selected to include.     Drag & Drop Once the AssetBar has been launched, select the image size you want to use from the drop down menu.       After you have selected a file size, you are ready to drag and drop your images into your document.. To do this left click on the image and while holding the left mouse button down, drag the image from the AssetBar into your document or desired location such as a folder or email.   You can also drag and drop multiple images into applications by selecting the tick box for the images you want to include prior to dragging them into the document.  Click on the icon at the top left hand corner of the AssetBar to 'Select all images'.   All images will then be selected and can be dragged and dropped into applications.
